Dr. Abel Mwiburi

Dr. Abel Mwiburi is the Head of Tax and Special Projects at FB Attorneys, specialising in tax law. He has over a decade of experience in commercial and corporate law, land law, tax, mining and natural resources, and statutory compliance. He co‑leads the tax team appearing in multi‑billion dollar disputes before the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) during objection proceedings, the Tax Revenue Appeals Board, the Tribunal, and the Court of Appeal in tax‑related disputes.

He also advises on resolving multi‑million dollar environmental and licensing disputes between regulators and energy sector clients, as well as competition law merger clearance matters, including opposed mergers and those deemed anti‑competitive. He has advised corporate clients on sector‑specific legislation, including the Petroleum Act, as well as public law questions touching on constitutional matters. He previously worked with PwC as a consultant and is a law lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law.

He holds a PhD from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, an LL.M from the University of Dar es Salaam, and an LL.B from the University of Dar es Salaam. He regularly contributes to the Tanganyika Law Society Journal and is part of the editorial team of FB Attorneys’ Legal Update and Q&A publications.
