Sophia Issa

Sophia Issa is a Principal Associate at A&K Tanzania, specialising in corporate law, employment law, telecommunications, real estate and conveyancing, and intellectual property law. She advises domestic and international clients on various transactions involving engagements with Tanzanian regulators, including the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), and the Registrar of Companies (BRELA).

She has advised Lucky Games Limited on its majority acquisition by Moja Group Inc, Mwananchi Communications Limited on its majority acquisition by a Tanzanian national, and City Lodge Hotel Group on the acquisition of its entire issued share capital by Faraja Limited. She has also advised Orica Tanzania Limited on its minority acquisition by a Tanzanian national, the Norwegian Embassy on property ownership in Tanzania, and New Forests Asset Management Pty Limited on its acquisition of Green Resources AS. She has advised on the acquisition of one of the largest shopping malls in Tanzania, on property ownership through the Tanzania Investment Centre, and on obtaining operational licenses from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority for internet services.

Sophia holds an LL.B from Mzumbe University (2011) and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Law School of Tanzania (2014). She joined A&K Tanzania in 2014 and has held the position of Principal Associate since April 2023. She is a member of the Tanganyika Law Society and the East African Law Society.
