James Pius

James Pius is a Partner in the Corporate Commercial practice at Bowmans' Dar es Salaam office, specialising in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He has over 9 years of experience in cross‑border M&A transactions, mining, capital markets, oil and gas, and energy, having trained and worked at an international law firm with secondments in Dubai, London, Johannesburg, and Nairobi.

He has advised on Premier Solar Group's sale of a 50% stake in its East African operations to Starsight Energy, Kopa Technologies Inc. on the sale of its East Africa business operations and its pay‑as‑you‑go LPG technology to Circle Gas, and RIU Hotels & Resorts on its USD 56.5 million acquisition of the Diamonds La Gemma Dell’Est luxury resort in Zanzibar. He has also advised Kabanga Nickel Limited on its framework agreement with the Government of Tanzania and the investment by BHP, Black Rock Mining Limited on its framework agreement with the Government of Tanzania, and Orecorp Limited on its acquisition of the Nyanzaga Gold Project. He also acts as company secretary for major mining companies including Tembo Nickel Corporation and Peak Resource (T) Limited, and has managed a company secretarial department providing services to over 100 companies.

He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam and a Post‑Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania. He is a member of the Tanganyika Law Society and the East African Law Society. He is ranked as a Rising Star for Corporate and M&A and Projects: Mining by IFLR1000 (2021, 2023‑2025) and a Leading Associate by The Legal 500 (2025‑2026).
